How to Subscribe to the McLean.net News Service

Below are simple instructions on how to subscribe to the News Net using MS Internet News reader.

1. You must have a NNTP capable reader. I recommend using Internet Explorer, which includes Mail and News readers. Netscape will work as well.
2. Tell your reader to open the news server, News.McLean.net. In MS Internet News, this is accomplished by clicking the menu News...Options, and then selecting the Server tab in the dialog. On the Server tab, click the Add button at the bottom.
3. In the Server Name text entry field, type News.McLean.net. Click the OK button to accept this info. This server name should now appear in the list box of news servers. If not, click the Add button again, and reenter the previous info. If the server name appears, then click the OK button.
4. You may now subscribe to the news server forums. In MS Internet News, select the menu News...Newsgroups, or select Newsgroups from the tool bar.
5. The News Server dialog that appears allows you to select a server name, so click on the News.McLean.net server. A list of groups will appear. Highlight the groups you wish to subscribe to, and then click the Subscribe button.
6. Click on the news group McLean.net News forum, and click the Goto button at the bottom.
7. You will be logged into the forum and the articles will appear.
8. You may read the articles, and Post messages to the articles as well.
9. In the future you may click on the McLean.net News jump provided on the left, and it will automatically open your reader to the McLean.net forum.
